Overdraft Protection Services
Receiving an overdraft charge or having an item returned due to insufficient funds happens to the best of us at one time or another and can be a very embarrassing and costly experience. You can safeguard your personal deposit accounts from these types of errors by using one of our overdraft protection services- Deposit based overdraft protection, an overdraft line of credit, or Old Point Overdraft Privilege.
 
  • Old Point Overdraft Privilege (OPOP) is a courtesy overdraft protection service that allows you to enter into an overdraft position without having your items returned. It is not a loan and you do not have to apply. The amount of protection you are granted is tied to the type of checking account that you have. When you use your OPOP to cover an overdraft, you are charged our standard overdraft fee in addition to the amount of the overdraft.
 
As added protection, make sure that you Opt-In Today and authorize Old Point to pay overdrafts incurred at the ATM or through everyday point-of-sale transactions (those made at the cash register)!

Old Point's ATM and VISA® Check Cards give you 24-Hour access to your money at numerous convenient ATM locations throughout Hampton Roads, (including many in local convenience stores) as well as thousands of network-affiliated ATMs all over the world. With either of these cards, you may review your checking and savings account balances, obtain cash, and make transfers between your accounts from virtually anywhere in the world.

During traditional "in-store" sales, verifying a cardholder's account ownership can be done face to face; this is not possible with internet purchases. Due to this, there is an increased chance for unauthorized purchases online. Verified by VISA® reduces the risk of unauthorized online purchases being made with a customer's VISA® Check Card.

If you have an Old Point VISA® Check Card you MUST register in order to be able to shop online at participating stores. When shopping at participating online stores, you will be asked for your password in order to complete the purchase. Online registration is easy and free. Everyone on your VISA® account will need to activate their card and create their own personal Verified by VISA® password so that they can shop at participating online stores.
